From the slow burn to igniting an inferno, spicy food is having a moment. With the new Qdoba Queso Apocalypto, the extreme flavor will have people dipping in to get that first taste.

Queso is more than just another side dish. People take that cheesy, gooey dip seriously. Even though grandma might have her secret recipe, Qdoba stakes its claim that their version reigns supreme.

As its loyal fan base knows, Qdoba Mexican Eats is “America’s Best Fast Causal Restaurant." One of the reasons why is that bold flavor is infused into every recipe. The restaurant is never afraid to infuse big, bold flavor into its food.

The latest offering, Qdoba Queso Apocalypto is a prime example. Its foray into the spicy food trend is more than just dipping their toe into the water. It is making a gigantic splash.

As Kim Zamir, Vice President of Marketing at Qdoba said, “At Qdoba, we believe queso should be celebrated every day, not just on National Queso Day. Spicy foods are one of this year's hottest (literally) food trends, and Qdoba has a passion for innovating new menu items our fans will love."

What makes the new Qdoba Queso Apocalypto special?

According to the brand, Qdoba Queso Apocalypto starts with the Queso Diablo and adds salsa roja, habanero salsa, pickled jalapenos, and fiery hot crunchies. As the ingredient list suggests, the flavors hit first, second, and last. It is not just a burst of extreme spice that fades in an instant. The build and the finish create a warm flush on your palate.

By using different spicy ingredients, this recipe ensures nothing is lost. Since queso (cheese) can temper spice, just like any dairy, it is imperative to use various elements to keep the spice level high. The tangy pickled jalapenos with the habanero salsa offers that contrast.

The biggest element that makes this queso different is the fiery crunchies. While that topping initially adds some texture, it is another spicy element. Crunch can change the spice note. Again, there is no hiding from this food’s heat.

The Queso Apocalypto will be available starting on September 20. It is available as a side, but no one would complain if you used that side as a topping on a burrito or bowl. The side is priced at $5.99.
