World Champion Para-Climber Mo Beck takes her TINCUP whiskey cocktail to new heights, interview
Some people choose to accept challenges in their path. For Maureen “Mo” Beck, her journey to become a World Champion Para-Climber has seen great summits and a few ravines along the way. Through it all, she has found that life’s challenges make the journey more fulfilling. And, as TINCUP Whiskey’s Ambassador, she knows that there is a festival libation waiting to toast those momentous moments.
Across the whiskey category, there are numerous distillations. While each distiller hones their craft to create a superb bottle with every release, the variations allow drinkers to explore their favorite flavors.
Created by Jess Graber, known for founding Stranahan’s Whiskey, TINCUP is inspired by Colorado nature and history. Although the rugged cowboy lifestyle might not be for everyone, this “bourbon+” offering is rooted to the Rocky mountain water and area that influences ever bottle.
As TINCUP’s Whiskey Ambassador, Mo Beck knows her way around a rugged landscape. The World Champion Para-Climber has never backed down from a challenge.
Recently, Beck graciously answered some questions about her approach to facing obstacles, her appreciation for TINCUP Whiskey, and a special cocktail that is perfect to enjoy while watching the Paralympics held in Paris.
Cristine Struble: Some people might see a mountain and never have the courage to attempt to climb it. What makes you see that obstacle and choose to summit it?
Mo Beck: "I always have a curiosity for finding out what is just out of sight, whether that’s some metaphorical thing about life in general or a literal seeing what’s just over that ridge, on the other side of that peak. And the crazy thing about seeing the other side is you realize there’s another side beyond the next ridge – exploration is a lifelong addiction."
CS: It seems that you thrive in facing challenges head on. For people who might be struggling to overcome an obstacle, difficulty or other issue, what words of encouragement would you offer them?
MB: "Whenever I’m coaching someone who’s new at climbing, I give them the truest advice that I have: The hardest part of the climb is always taking that first step off the ground. Committing to doing the hard thing is the biggest battle – after that, you’re just rock climbing!"
CS: Every four years, the world watches and cheers for all the athletic endeavors. How would you encourage people to be more engaged with your sport more often than just during the Paralympics?
MB: "It’s a very exciting time to be a Para climber, because this summer we found out that we’ll be going to the Paralympic Games in 2028 for the first time ever – a home games, at that!"
CS: You appreciate a great whiskey. What drew you to TINCUP? What makes this spirit brand special?
MB: "I love whiskey in all forms, whether it’s in a high-end cocktail bar while I’m wearing heels, or in a dirty mug with ice scraped out of the bottom of the cooler around a campfire. I have range in my life, and I need a line of whiskey that can keep up. TINCUP Mountain Whiskey has proven time and time again to be the whiskey I reach for on every occasion. When I’m celebrating at the summit, I pull out my TINCUP Adventure Pack, an on-the-go reusable canteen filled with TINCUP Original. It’s truly the perfect packable whiskey for my climbs. Then when I’m unwinding at home, I pour TINCUP 10 Year Bourbon neat or in a cocktail."
CS: What is the inspiration behind your specialty cocktail? What makes it a great choice for watching parties?
MB: "Firstly, I love a good pun, and secondly, I love my chickens. The two of them together became my inspiration of the Coq au Tin – the initial inspiration being the Paris games, of course! I love setting up a ‘make your own’ cocktail station to have my friends over and try – and TINCUP is always a crowd-favorite – it was simple enough to teach them, but just fancy enough that everyone felt like they learned something. Egg white foam isn’t something we do a lot at home, and it made the cocktail so smooth to sip that it was the perfect treat to watch the games."
"The base of TINCUP Original whiskey adds a rich, robust character, while fresh lemon juice and simple syrup offer a refreshing citrus twist. The real magic happens with the egg white foam, which gives the cocktail a silky-smooth texture that makes each sip a luxurious experience."
Recipe:
2 oz TINCUP Original
3/4 oz fresh lemon juice
1/2 oz simple syrup
1/2 oz egg whites
Method:
Combine all ingredients and dry shake (shake without ice) vigorously for about 30 seconds. This helps to create the perfect frothy texture. Then, add a handful of ice to the shaker and shake again to chill the cocktail. Strain the mixture over a glass filled with ice and enjoy!
CS: As a TINCUP ambassador, what would you like whiskey drinkers to know about the brand and how could you entice them to switch to this brand?
MB: "TINCUP truly is a mountain whiskey made for those embracing the outdoors. If you like sipping your whiskey from the summit of a mountain, the back of a beached raft, or with dirt still under your fingernails – then TINCUP is for you."
"What sets TINCUP apart is not just its spirit but its commitment to authenticity and adventure – and TINCUP makes drinking whiskey an adventure in and of itself. TINCUP invites you to experience a whiskey that’s more than just a drink—it’s a celebration of freedom and the great outdoors."
