Egg prices are the subject that never leaves the headlines. From shortages to continuing rising costs, having that plate of fried, over easy, or scrambled eggs might be replaced by something else. A price change is coming to restaurant menus, too. But, one national restaurant chain is committed to its value premise and refuses to levy egg surcharges.

Cracker Barrel just announced that it will not pass on egg surcharges to its guests. Given that eggs are part of many of the menu items at the popular restaurant brand, it shows the company’s commitment to value and putting its guests first.

As a Cracker Barrel spokesperson said, “at Cracker Barrel, country hospitality is as important to us as a hearty breakfast – and that means not charging extra for eggs. We know our guests already have a lot on their plates, so we’ll just stay focused on serving up plates of delicious food at incredible value, like our Sunrise Pancake Special starting at $7.99. We’ve got you covered, all-day breakfast, lunch and dinner.”

No matter how guests order that food, there is no hidden fee added to the tab. Given that value meals can change people’s eating habits, this decision can get guests to choose Cracker Barrel over other restaurants. Even driving an extra mile can be worth saving on the bill.

Additionally, the restaurant brand is offering Cracker Barrel Rewards members double pegs on all egg dishes. The promotion is available February 6 through February 12.

Restaurants are constantly looking to balance value and customer loyalty. Even though people crave a particular food item, the money spent can curb that feeling. When a brand can offer value while giving people what they want, it will build brand loyalty.

While egg surcharges become the breakfast battle chapter of the value meal wars? Only time will tell. For now, scrambled, fried or over easy eggs are waiting to be devoured at Cracker Barrel and it will not cost the guest extra.
