Can you sing the right lyric to score free groceries?
Certain songs, jingles, and musical interludes are iconic earworms. Heads turn at that iconic specific sound from the Weiner Whistle. Now it is time to spell and sing for your dinner. Ready to score from free food from O-S-C-A-R?
Some people might recall the traditional Oscar Mayer Bologna jingle. Even if that sandwich meat might not be quite as trending as other lunchbox offerings, the original 1974 jingle is an iconic part of food culture.
This year, Oscar Mayer is turning that nostalgic moment into a way for everyone to “Sing to Pay.” Given that food costs continue to be a top concern for consumers, this special offer gives everyone an opportunity to score from free groceries via Instacart.
Speaking about this special promotion, Shelby Max, Brand Manager for Oscar Mayer said, “Fifty years ago, we introduced the world to ‘The Bologna song’ as a way to spotlight our delicious lunch meats and cement the brand’s legacy and mantra of uniting millions around a love of meat. We knew this anniversary was a moment that needed to be celebrated in a big way, both for those who remember and those that are new. By re-airing the original ad and becoming the first brand to accept singing as a form of payment, we want to remind fans everywhere that bologna has a first name – it’s O-S-C-A-R.” –
To participate in this promotion, people can submit an entry to SingToPay.com. To be clear, the musical rendition does need to include the correct lyrics. The submission could earn an Instacart credit for groceries, including Oscar Mayer Bologna. The offer is open through December 15.
While the lyrics need to be correct, hopefully, people get a little creative with their submissions. Even though food nostalgia continues to have a moment, a modern take can be a fun way to fall in love with the jingle again.
Additionally, it would be nice if Oscar Mayer compiles some of the best submissions for everyone to see. Food is the common connector. Seeing other’s interpretation of the infamous jingle could have a whole new generation running to get their own slice of bologna.
