Even though storms might rattle Floridians nerves during mid-October, another annual food event has them devouring deliciousness at the table. October 15 marks the beginning of stone crab season and everyone is ready to start cracking those claws.

Florida has a bevy of seafood offerings. Whether it is the fresh catch during red snapper season, the sweet lobsters from the Keys, or those pink shrimp, there is no shortage of seafood options across the Sunshine State.

Stone Crab season is highly coveted time for many people. While those claws do take a little effort to crack, the reality is that the sweet flavor and tender meat is worth it. Enjoyed cold, with drawn butter, or however people choose, there are plenty of recipes.

Additionally, stone crab makes for a great choice because it is a sustainable seafood option. Since only one claw is harvested, the crab can grow back the missing limb. It not necessarily be a fun topic of conversation, but it is important to support sustainable choices.
