If you're like me and eagerly await new seasons of Food Network's holiday and seasonal-themed Baking Championship shows, then you're likely wondering about the status of Summer Baking Championship season 3. It's now June and there haven't been any updates or promotional material for the series, despite Spring Baking Championship wrapping up its eleventh season on May 19.
Unfortunately, it seems unlikely that Food Network will bring Summer Baking Championship back for the 2025 season. Moving into June without hearing anything official is a bad sign, especially for a series that would normally have started airing by now. Both previous seasons have had May premieres. Last year, Food Network and owner Warner Bros. Discovery shared a press release and photos to introduce the competing bakers and announce the season debut date. That hasn't happened this time.
Here's what we know definitively: Food Network has not issued a formal renewal or cancellation for Summer Baking Championship, but the series does not appear to be returning this summer.
That being said, it's still possible the show will come back later this summer, potentially courting a late July or August debut, though that would be a notable shift from the former May dates.
Kicking off in 2023, Summer Baking Championship invited 10 of the country's top bakers to compete in weekly challenges, to be judged by Carla Hall, Duff Goldman, and Damaris Phillips. Jesse Palmer hosted both seasons.
Super Mega Cakes is coming soon
But perhaps the most significant indicator that we're skipping Summer Baking Championship this year is the fact that one of the judges, Duff Goldman, has a different series premiering on Food Network soon with his show Super Mega Cakes. The six-episode series will pit Goldman and the Charm City Cakes team against elite bakers as they make massive themed cakes including interactive elements and other special details. The show will premiere on June 16 at 9/8c on Food Network, with episodes also available to stream on Max.
Goldman signed a multi-year deal with the network back in 2023, the same year he participated on the inaugural season of Summer Baking Championship. The competition series reportedly performed very well for Food Network, becoming the channel's strongest freshman performer and netting over 12 million viewers across linear airings and Max (and Discovery+, which has since been folded into Max).
Those numbers are impressive and likely what cemented the show a sophomore season. It's hard to imagine the series fell off hard enough to warrant cancellation, but it does appear that the show, at the very least, is taking a break for the 2025 season.
