Grabbing some Taco Bell crunchy tacos and a Baja Blast has been a staple for many people. In other cultures, grabbing a freshly made taco from a small street vendor is their version of fast food. With the new Toasted Cheddar Street Chalupas, Taco Bell offers a taste of that street food culture with a spin of innovative flavors.

Recently, Taco Bell announced numerous innovations to its menu. The huge Live Mas event shows that the quick service restaurant brand wants to blend food trends with core concepts. By never losing the connection to what makes that Live Mas mantra unique, the new and returning menu items ensure that guests keep ordering time and again.

The latest menu innovation to hit the menu is the Toasted Cheddar Street Chalupas. This concept focuses on two aspects, texture and flavor.

As Luis Restrepo, Taco Bell’s Vice President, Product Innovation explained, “The street taco is a cultural staple built on bold flavor and quality ingredients, and the Toasted Cheddar Street Chalupas honors that tradition while bringing in a unique Taco Bell touch that packs even more flavor into every bite.  Fans immediately fell in love with the crispy, cheesy bite of the Toasted Cheddar Chalupa in 2019, and now we’re elevating that street-inspired flavor experience and that’s exactly the kind of comeback our fans have been waiting for.”

This Chalupa includes a choice of two premium proteins, onions, cilantro, and Chile Lime Crema Sauce. These ingredients are nestled in the toasted cheddar shell.

First, the use of the toasted cheddar shell is beneficial for two reasons. The slight crunch adds to eating satisfaction. Texture is vital to a well composed dish.

Second, the toasted cheddar adds a cheesy note in every bite. Everyone knows that shredded cheese can be concentrated in one bite and missing in another. By putting the cheese on the shell, it ensures every morsel has some cheesy goodness.

The inclusion of onions and cilantro is a nod to classic street tacos. Street tacos often focus on the flavorful protein and the extras are meant to highlight it. The quick eat, handheld bite is a celebration of simplicity.

Lastly, the Chile Lime Crema Sauce is a great addition to the Taco Bell menu. It has that underlying spice, but it is approachable. The punch of acid with heat blends well with the cilantro. Additionally, the lusciousness of the sauce contrasts the crunchy exterior.

Overall, the Toasted Cheddar Chalupa will be well received. The food item is available for a limited time. Two chalupas are $5.49. Additional value meals are available.
