We all know that American runs on Dunkin' coffee and its various breakfast sandwiches, but where do its many donut flavors rank according to taste?

Throughout the years, Dunkin' has launched an abundance of different donuts, some only limited and others that come around at specific holidays, and while many of their donuts are incredibly tasty and memorable, a couple of them are definitely duds. The following list highlights our top five favorite Dunkin's donuts, and two we could do without.

Best: Maple Frosted

Maple Frosted donuts are my number one, all-time favorite donut flavor, so it's a shame that they appear to be becoming a rarity at the many Dunkins near me (I'm in Virginia and I've noticed a scarcity of this flavor on the east coast). As a fan of the rich buttery flavor of the maple frosting, I could eat an embarrassing amount of these donuts back-to-back, especially if they're hot and fresh.

Best: Boston Kreme

Boston Kreme is a yeast donut filled with the company's deliciously sweet and creamy Bavarian Kreme filling. It also features a chocolate glaze on top that acts as the perfect complement to the custard tucked inside. By contrast, the Bavarian Kreme donut doesn't have the chocolate glaze and is instead tossed in powdered sugar, making it a mess to eat and less tasty than the Boston version.

Worst: Cotton Candy

I had a hard time deciding whether to put the Cotton Candy specialty donut here, or the Cookie Butter one. I'm sure both of these limited flavors have their fans, but I find them to be entirely too sweet, to the point of feeling as if I'm biting into a handheld stomachache. Somehow this donut feels like the equivalent of a Crumbl cookie, just way too much sugar, to a nauseating degree. Plus, the cotton candy flavoring really doesn't taste all that similar to cotton candy.

Best: Double Chocolate

Another one of my go-to donuts is easily the Double Chocolate. I'm a huge fan of cake-based donuts and Dunkin' knocks it out of the park with their recipe for the chocolate cake donut. Accompanied with the yummy, thick chocolate icing on top and you're basically eating a well made slice of chocolate cake.

Best: Jelly

Jelly donuts are among the most popular donuts, and for good reason. Dunkin's version of the Jelly-filled is perfectly balanced between sweet and acidic, creating a wonderful mix of flavors in your mouth. Plus, I always appreciate that Dunkin' doesn't overdo it with the powdered sugar on these, so you can get it with a light dusting of either granulated or powdered sugar and it won't make a huge mess while you're eating on the go.

Worst: Glazed

Don't get me wrong, glazed donuts are an absolute classic. But Dunkin' just hasn't nailed them the same way as their competitor Krispy Kreme. There is a reason that Krispy Kreme is known for their glazed donuts and Dunkin's isn't.

Best: Brownie Batter

This specific filled donut is a little similar to the Cotton Candy and Cookie Butter options, but unlike those, this one nails the flavoring of its intoxicating brownie batter-flavored butter creme. It genuinely tastes like when you partake in a few illicit licks of the spoon while baking brownies at home. And it's not overly sweet like some of Dunkin's other specialty donuts. Sadly, this one usually only comes around once a year, on Valentine's Day.
