As one of the most iconic, unique quick service restaurants frozen desserts, Wendy’s Frosty hits the perfect blend of soft serve ice cream and a milkshake. While the classic Chocolate will always be on the menu, the newest limited time flavor, Thin Mints Frosty, is too good to miss. But, like Girl Scout Cookie season, it will not be here forever.
According to Wendy’s, the Thin Mints Frosty will hit restaurants starting on Friday, February 21. To be clear, the Girl Scout cookie inspired dessert is not a stand alone Frosty flavor. This option is a swirl that can be added to either the Chocolate or Vanilla Frosty.
The swirl option is an interesting launch for Wendy’s. First, the swirl means that the Vanilla Frosty stays on the menu. Usually when a seasonal or limited time flavor hits the menu, the Vanilla Frosty disappears. Vanilla Frosty fans will be happy with this situation.
Second, it is unclear if the Thin Mints swirl has actual cookie bits included in the chocolate, minty syrup. According to a Wendy’s email, the swirl is described as “minty-chocolatey, crumbly, cookie butter texture.” Based on those words, this is more than just a simple syrup. It adds some texture to the mix.
This new Frosty variation is important for several reasons. First, it offers tons of potential expansions of the iconic frozen dessert. Why couldn’t there be a cookie butter swirl, chocolate chip, or even gingerbread option for the holidays. Basically, Wendy’s could make a myriad of specialty Frosty flavors by changing the swirl.
Second, the chocolate mint flavor is subtle. An entire dessert of that flavor might be too overwhelming. The swirl makes it more approachable.
Thinking about which will be more popular, the chocolate or vanilla, it seems that the vanilla has an edge. That flavor will allow the swirl’s flavor to pop. Wonder if Wendy’s would allow a half chocolate, half vanilla with the swirl?
But, this new limited edition flavor might not be the best choice to dip in those Hot and Crispy Fries. Mint and fries are not necessarily the best flavor pairing.
While many people will have to have this special frozen treat as soon as possible, Wendy’s alluded that there is more to come closer to launch. Could there be special deal or other offer to make this Frosty even more enticing?
For now, the countdown is on to the first spoonful of the Thin Mints Frosty. Who’s heading to Wendy’s on February 21?
