As the World’s Largest Hot Dog Chain, Wienerschnitzel understands that packing big flavor inside a bun is want guests crave. The newest food item to join the menu is a take on a South Carolina regional favorite. Ready for a taste of deliciousness that soars with flavor?
The new menu items are Southern Bird Dogs. Based on the popular South Carolina concept, these chicken breast tenders are combined with a variety of ingredients. Yes, the iconic hot dog restaurant is ready to jump into the chicken wars.
As Doug Koegeboehn, Wienerschnitzel’s Chief Marketing Officer The explained, “South Carolina is known for its Southern Bird Dogs. Since they are served in hot dog buns, we felt like this was the perfect way to introduce chicken at our restaurants. Once we tried them, we knew we had a winner.”
The Southern Bird Dogs are available in three options: Bacon Ranch, Buffalo Ranch, and BBQ. At the heart of all three offerings are the marinated chicken breast tenders. The crispy, crunchy chicken offers a contrast of textures with the soft hot dog bun. Carefully nestled in that bread, every bite has toppings, chicken, and bread.
The two ranch offerings include tomatoes and ranch. The difference is either bacon or buffalo sauce. These two menu items are designed to highlight the chicken. When that protein is well executed, it does not need additional ingredients to mask it.
The BBQ version feels a little heartier. The chicken is combined with grilled onions, pickle spear, and BBQ sauce. This item will get people talking. It is different from other quick service restaurant offerings. Not only does it include the always popular pickle flavor, it has a down-home feel with the grilled onions.
By joining the chicken wars with regionally inspired Southern Bird Dogs, Wienerschnitzel stayed true to what made the brand successful. The connection to hot dogs is clear but it gives people an options that is not an encased meat.
Could the restaurant continue to expand this line with more flavors? It is a possibility. The ability to transform simple chicken tenders with sauce and ingredients is at the heart of the chicken wars.
The Wienerschnitzel Southern Bird Dogs are available starting on April 28. Check with the 300 restaurants across the nation for more information.
