In honor of National S’mores Day, the Girl Scouts announced the return of Girl Scout S’mores cookies. Make room in your pantry and freezer for this annual cookie extravaganza.

It is almost that time of year again. The annual Girl Scouts cookie season is almost here. Today, on National S’mores Day, the Girl Scouts announced the return of Girl Scout S’mores cookies. The s’mores cookies were “most popular flavor to launch in the 100 years of Girl Scouts selling cookies.”

S’mores and the Girl Scouts have a long, storied history. The first s’mores recipe can be traced back to a Girl Scout training book. The campfire treat has become a summer staple, family favorite and iconic flavor. Today, s’mores have taken over ice cream, cakes, cookies and all types of desserts and snacks.

The Girl Scout cookie s’mores will be available in two varieties. According to the Girl Scouts,” one is a crispy graham cookie double dipped in a crème icing and enrobed in a chocolatey coating. The other is a crunchy graham sandwich cookie with creamy chocolate and marshmallowy filling, which is embossed with designs that honor Girl Scouts’ Outdoor badges.”

Today, National S’mores Day, Girl Scouts announced that its popular Girl Scout S’mores™ will return as part of the 2018 Girl Scout Cookie season lineup. The return of Girl Scout S’mores reaffirms Girl Scouts’ commitment to providing adventurous opportunities for girls in the outdoors. Unfortunately, only one of the two s’mores versions will be offered by a troop. The Girl Scouts didn’t say how or where each version will be offered. To be able to try both versions, you might have to search for them. If you have lots of friends across the U.S., maybe you can score both versions. Watch out, I’m thinking that this two version s’mores option become sensation with social media postings about the “elusive” boxes/flavors.

Since Girl Scout cookies are only sold for a limited time each year, people crave those special cookies. Many people, myself included, have a stock pile of Thin Mints in the freezer. That cookie hoarding helps to bridge the gap between cookie sales.

While everyone has a favorite flavor, the Girl Scouts do try to introduce new flavors. While the S’mores cookies were a huge hit, other new flavors have been offered too. Dulce de leche, gluten free and others have had their moment. But, the tried and true flavors, like Thin Mint and Samoas, will always be on the order list.

While many people enjoy eating Girl Scout cookies, the cookie selling program is more than a tasty treat. The cookie sale raises money just for the local organization. More importantly, the task teaches the participating Girl Scout members business practices. From the art of selling to sales targets, many important lessons are learned through this annual cookie tradition.
