Final 3 Lays Do Us a Flavor chip choices leave me wanting plain Lays

Lays Do Us a Flavor promotion is back. After trying the final 3 Lays Do Us a Flavor choices, I’m craving a bag of plain Lays.

After pairing the Lays Do Us a Flavor semi-finalists down to three options, potato chip fans began searching for the final 3 Lays Do Us a Flavor chip choices. This year’s choices are Fried Green Tomato, Taco Seasoning and Everything Bagel with Cream Cheese. I’ve tried all three flavors and I’m going back to my bag of plain, traditional, old school Lays potato chips.

Every year my family gets all the Lays Do Us a Flavor limited edition chips. Some years the flavors are amazing and we love every option. Unfortunately, this year’s flavors left us disappointed. While the flavors sound promising, no one is ready to buy another bag of any of these choices.

Fried Green Tomato

If I had to pick one winner of the bunch it is the Fried Green Tomato. I think that the wavy chip gave this flavor the edge. Who doesn’t like a wavy chip? The chip does have a strong fried flavor, but maybe not exactly the green tomato flavor. The first taste gives a “fried” taste, like the breading you get on fried foods.

While I wouldn’t call it real fried green tomato taste, it isn’t bad. A great choice would be to add the fried green tomato chip as a topping to a hamburger. The flavor and crunchy would be a great alternative to a traditional tomato.

Also, the fried green tomato chip would be good with a classic French Onion dip. Since it’s a wavy chip, this type of chip is perfect for dips. The fried taste and the creamy dip would be a good pairing.

Everything Bagel with Cream Cheese

I really wanted to like this chip. An everything bagel is one of my favorite things to eat. But, this chip left me wanting more. The flavors were bland and the chip tasted like a regular, plain chip. On occasion, I tasted some extra salt and pepper, but the garlic and onion flavors were missing. Plus, I didn’t taste any sesame seed flavors either. While there was a hint of cream cheese, it was very subtle.

If you’re looking for a chip with maybe a little more seasoning than just a plain chip, the everything bagel with cream cheese is an option. The chip is nothing special, and I dare say disappointing. If Lays could amp up the flavors, I think that this flavor could have been amazing.

Crispy Taco

The crispy taco chip has a lot of flavor and seasoning. Unfortunately, this seasoning is the problem. The crispy taco chip tastes as if someone took a full container of taco seasoning and dumped it in a bag of potato chips. Tacos are great. So many people enjoy Taco Tuesdays. Again, this flavor could have been good, but it isn’t.

A downfall could have been the style of chip used. The plain chip absorbed a lot of season. Like the traditional barbecue flavored chips, this taco seasoning chip is similar in texture and consistency. But, the taco seasoning flavor was just too overpowering. I wouldn’t even want to have a small bag as a walking taco. And, who doesn’t love a good walking taco?

Unfortunately, this year I am not voting for any of the final three Lays Do Us a Flavor chip choices. I really wish that Lays had made the

bacon jalapeno flavor

. I was really looking forward to that choice. Until next year, I’m going back to my plain Lays. Nothing beats an original plain Lays potato chip.
