Of course, Food Network Star is being led by Bobby Flay and Giadia De Laurentiis. The two highly acclaimed chefs will mentor the hopefuls through a series of challenges. To be the next star, these hopefuls need more than just delicious food. They need to showcase a strong personality, great camera presence and a unique point of view.

Last year’s Food Network Star was fan favorite Jason Smith. Many people were excited to see the chef with “country bling” to capture the title. While Smith is popular with fans, he doesn’t have his own show. He is a co-host of Best Baker in America. Luckily fans can enjoy his bold clothing choices and personality on that Food Network show.

In this season’s Food Network Star, the hopefuls will compete against a returning contestant. Food Network Star: Comeback Kitchen sees eight former contestant vie for a spot in this season. While this opportunity is fun for fans, the former contestants may not have an advantage in the competition. Sometimes being a known commodity is a hindrance versus an advantage.

According the Food Network, the first episode has contestants create a portable version of their signature dish. The contestants have to convince guests at Universal Orlando’s Volcano Bay to try their special dishes. It seems like the culinary hopefuls are getting thrown to the sharks on the first episode.

This challenge seems particularly hard. While Volcano Bay is a wonderful water park, I’m not eating a lot when I’m there. Sure, the idea of a portable meal is great at a theme park. Still, the dish needs to appeal to variety of people. It will be interesting to see how the culinary hopefuls approach the first challenge.
