Hell’s Kitchen Season 18 episode 5 might have some of the chefs fearing the open water. Will these chefs find their confidence in the kitchen?

Hell’s Kitchen Season 18 episode 5 brings the Gordon Ramsay driven food TV show has disbanded the rookies versus veterans experiment. With the chefs back to men versus women in the kitchen, will the heat on the line cause the chefs to burn out quickly?

According to FOX, this week’s episode, Fish Out of Water, synopsis states:

“Teams are tasked with cooking halibut in seven different ways; a dinner service; an elimination; pianist Stephan Moccio; chef David LeFevre.”

It appears that the first challenge will be the halibut. Cooking halibut seven different ways doesn’t sound too extraordinarily difficult. Since halibut is such a versatile fish, the options for these dishes are numerous.

With Chef David LeFevre (you might remember him from Iron Chef Gauntlet) in this episode, the halibut needs to be cooked perfectly. Between him and Gordon, mistakes will not be overlooked. Let’s hope that Jose remembers how to cook halibut correctly.

For this type of first challenge, it seems likely that the chefs will have a head to head challenge. Truthfully, any chef could beat another chef in this scenario. Of course, knowledge about cooking halibut correctly will help, but anyone can have a bad day in the kitchen.

Still, this one challenge is only part of Hell’s Kitchen Season 18 episode 5. Looking at this exclusive preview clip from FOX, the chefs need to find their confidence in the kitchen.

This video preview is interesting beyond just the Hell’s Kitchen episode. It is very telling of women chefs. Women can cook and cook well. But often, they lack confidence on the line.

Gizzy (and Mia apparently) need to be confident in their cooking abilities. They both have a strong culinary background. There is no reason that these women can’t properly cook lamb or Beef Wellington.

Granted cooking in Hell’s Kitchen or any unfamiliar kitchen isn’t easy. Add to that scenario the pressure of being on television, this cooking environment isn’t normal. Still, the male chefs don’t seem to have a confidence problem.

The second part of this video shows some bigger issues on the red team. It appears that Kevin is having cooking issues, again. While the communication on the line appears to be a problem, that issue doesn’t negate Kevin’s poor cooking choice. Who cooks salmon with copious amounts of butter?
