In Hell’s Kitchen Season 18 episode 6, the chefs might think that this competition could be filled with fun, but a childhood classic could cause a disaster.

Ready for Hell’s Kitchen Season 18 episode 6? The chefs are back in the kitchen and everyone needs to be strong in their cooking abilities. After last week’s surprising elimination of veteran, and previous runner-up, Kevin, this competition is very unpredictable. Could another potential favorite go up in flames?

According to FOX, Hell’s Kitchen Season 18 episode 6 synopsis states:

"The chefs must create a dish using potatoes as the key component; the pressure becomes unbearable for one chef, leading to a chaotic dinner service."

Looking at the synopsis, a few things come to mind. A potato dish isn’t as easy as it sounds. Often, the humble, yet delicious potato is the side to a more substantial protein. Making a dish that highlights the root vegetable isn’t as easy as it sounds.

To get everyone excited for this upcoming episode, FOX has shared this exclusive preview clip from Hell’s Kitchen Season 18 episode 6.

While the stylized/themed Mr. Potato Heads are quite cute, the challenge is more than just fun and games. I see a couple items that could spell disaster for the chefs.

First, the scramble for “ingredients” might spark a fight. While there seems to be plenty of “parts,” it isn’t clear what those ingredients are. Also, will the chefs have to use all the ingredients that they gather from the floor? Depending on the search and the ingredients, the chefs could find themselves in the weeds before they even start cooking.

  • Second, I didn’t notice the amount of time that the chefs will have to cook their potato dish. That factor will affect the type of dish that they can cook. Potatoes don’t cook quickly. Smart and careful planning will be necessary to choose a potato dish that can be executed well.

Lastly, Gordon Ramsay said two key words in describing this challenge, creativity and imagination. It seems likely that Gordon will use these two adjectives in evaluating the chefs’ dishes. A dish that has been done a thousand times over won’t be valued as much as something more innovative.

Beyond importance of creativity and imagination, the chefs need to execute this potato dish. Serving Gordon uncooked potatoes will surely face his fury.

Of course, this potato challenge is only part of Hell’s Kitchen Season 18 episode 6. Dinner service has been confusing in the past couple of episodes. With last week’s episode focusing on confidence, the two teams haven’t found their rhythm or balance in the kitchen. While each kitchen needs a leader, the chefs’ egos might start coming into play.

As last’s week’s episode ended, it will be curious to see if there really is a rift in the blue team. Could that iciness on the line lead to the blue team ending dinner service early?
