Holiday Baking Championship Season 5 episode 6 challenges the bakers to think beyond the traditional holiday classics. Which baker will be the most creative?

Holiday Baking Championship Season 5 episode 6 poses some really interesting challenges this week. While many people go shopping for tons of holiday ingredients, the pantry can hold a bounty of items to use in baking. Could this week’s challenge actually inspire some impromptu holiday baking in your household?

According to the Food Network, Holiday Baking Championship Season 5 episode 6, “New Family Classics” synopsis states:

"In the pre-heat, bakers have to combine common pantry ingredients like balsamic vinegar, potato chips, oatmeal, red wine and olive oil into a new version of a classic holiday dessert; the baker must use two key fruitcake components in a new dessert."

The pre-heat actually tackles a very important topic in the food world. While it seems like an interesting challenge, pantry shopping actually prevents food waste. Ingredients can be used in many ways. Showing people how to use the pantry wisely is very important.

Looking at the pre-heat, these ingredients could make for a quite tasty dessert. Hopefully, the bakers have a few recipes in their back pocket. Olive oil cakes, red wine poached fruit and even some oatmeal cookies could make an appearance. It will be interesting to see if any baker can create a really innovative dessert.

For the main heat, the often criticized fruitcake makes an appearance. This holiday classic has been the brunt of many jokes. Truthfully, a good (yes, there are good ones) fruitcake can be quite tasty.

It will be curious what two key fruitcake components will be required. While nuts would be easily, it could be something more challenging. Dried fruit seems like a likely ingredient. Hopefully, one baker will find something really innovative.

As Holiday Baking Championship Season 5 is reaching the end of the season, a clear front runner isn’t apparent. The remaining bakers have had both highs and lows. Could this week’s episode really see one baker stand out?
