Top Chef Season 16 episode 7 introduces food fans to a Kentucky classic. Can these chefs find culinary inspiration in the Hot Brown? If they can’t, the elimination challenge could be quite stressful. Which chef will be a cut above the rest?
According to Bravo, Top Chef Season 16 episode 7, “Carne” features the following synopsis, “actress Lena Waithe challenges the chefs to make a trademark Kentucky dish known as the Hot Brown; chef Nancy Silverton and butcher Dario Cecchini.”
For those unfamiliar, a Hot Brown is a legendary Louisville dish. Created by the chef at The Brown Hotel, the iconic dish dates back to the 1920s. The story said that the dish was created to satisfy guests after a long night of dancing. The chef created a sandwich that was an instant hit.

A Hot Brown, or The Brown Hotel’s version, is “open-faced turkey sandwich with bacon and a delicate Mornay sauce. This sandwich is definitely eaten with a fork and knife. Also, don’t forget your napkin.
It will be curious to see the chefs look to re-invent this classic. Whether they change the protein or switch the bacon for a different cured meat, this Quickfire challenge is a difficult task. It will be curious to see which chef earns the win.

For the Elimination Challenge, the chefs will be butchering meat. This challenge should give Brian an advantage. After falling so far in the previous episode, this challenge should help him feel more confident. Then again, nothing is predictable in this season of Top Chef.
If you haven’t caught up with Last Chance Kitchen, part two, stop reading now. In the recent episode of Last Chance Kitchen, there was a huge twist. Brother announced that he was done-done and left the competition. So, what does Top Chef do? They bring back Top Chef Season 16 eliminated chefs.
For this challenge, the chefs had not restrictions. The chefs had to create a dish that speaks for them. Tom left the kitchen and would be tasting the dishes blind (not knowing which chef created each dish).
After looking at all the dishes, the winning dish was the one with the least flaws. Many of the dishes had one or two components that just weren’t perfect. The chef continuing on in Last Chance Kitchen is Pablo. Can he go far in the competition? That question is left unanswered.
