In MasterChef Junior episode 4, the junior home cooks find that their mystery box is a little fishy. Will someone get filleted on this challenge?

MasterChef Junior episode 4 has two tough challenges for these talented young home cooks. After making it through last week’s team challenge, this week could be both difficult and emotional. While these young chefs have big dreams, their talent is worthy of those lofty goals.

For this week’s episode, the young chefs take on the fan favorite, mystery box challenge. In this challenge, the young chefs must debone a fish. That skill can be difficult even for the most seasoned chef.

When thinking about deboning a fish, a good knife is key. A flexible knife can make quick work of a fish. Also, tweezers can be important tool to get all those little pin bones out.

Of course, deboning the fish is just part of the challenge. The young chefs must make a delicious dish using that fish. Check out this video clip from MasterChef Junior episode 4.

Looking at this dish, the fish looks quite lovely. The skin looks crisp and the portion seems right. It is curious that these young chefs can properly cook fish (maybe some Hell’s Kitchen chefs could take a lesson).

Additionally, this dish has some very interesting flavor components. A warm tomato salsa with Swiss chard is a different combination. Although it could be a tad acidic, Gordon Ramsay seems intrigued by this dish. Plus, kudos to the young chef for not over-seasoning the first.

For the second challenge, the young chefs must show how their cultural heritages influence their cooking styles. This idea should resonate with anyone who cooks. Cooking brings families together. Those cultural flavors keep family memories alive.

This challenge could be a wonderful conversation starter for families. Maybe it could even help some picky eaters become a little more adventurous. Could some new flavors be on your family’s horizon?
