Buddy vs. Duff episode 5 preview: Donuts and magic
Could Buddy vs. Duff episode 5 be filled with smoke and mirrors or will these pastry chefs dispel the secret to the most magical cakes?
With only one episode to the finale, Buddy vs. Duff episode 5 could be a huge game changer for these two esteemed chefs. While Duff still holds the lead in the competition, this week’s two challenge could see a big shift in the leader board. Could Buddy pull two wins out of his hat?
According to Food Network, this week’s episode, “Donuts and Magic” synopsis states:
"Kicking things off in the bake-off challenge, pastry chefs Buddy Valastro and Duff Goldman have to handle the morning rush at Los Angeles’ iconic Randy’s Donuts drive-thru. They prepare dozens of deep-fried delights that will satisfy not only Randy’s discerning customers but also the expert judges. Then there’s magic in the air for the cake-off challenge as Buddy and Duff create cakes for the legendary duo Penn and Teller. Baking, showmanship and dazzling illusions combine as they present their cakes on stage at the world’s most famous magic club, The Magic Castle."
Looking at the episode previews, it appears that Duff struggles with the donut challenge. How glass gets into his donut batter will definitely be a big part of this week’s episode. Given that twist and the number of donuts to be made at Randy’s Donuts, this challenge should be an advantage for Buddy.
While elaborate, creative donuts have become a huge market, this week’s challenge will probably have a classic donut spin. This challenge will probably appeal to the chocolate glazed crowd versus the chipotle chocolate crowd.
In the second challenge, this cake-off should really show both Buddy and Duff’s creativity. Given the location of the Magic Castle, these cakes need to have an element of surprise and showmanship. Just a large, multi-tiered cake may not wow the audience. Can someone make a cake disappear?
