Are the bakers showing their playful side in this week’s Best Baker in America episode? With Toy Story 4 as inspiration, these themed desserts aren’t child’s play.

This week’s Best Baker in America takes a very different twist. While this Food Network show tends to focus on elevated, sophisticated desserts, this week’s episode gets a little playful. Are you ready for some toy inspired treats?

According to Food Network, this week’s Best Baker in America episode, “Themed Desserts: Toy Story 4” synopsis states:

"The five remaining bakers start by making Toy Story-themed mini desserts perfect for a movie premiere party. For the Master Challenge, host Scott Conant challenges the competitors to each choose a character from Disney Pixar’s Toy Story 4 to replicate in cake, and they have to include a flavor that speaks to the spirit of their character. Pastry chef Shinmin Li joins judges Jason Smith and Marcela Valladolid to eliminate one baker from the competition."

Looking at this week’s judging panel, it almost seems like this episode is more Cake Wars than traditional Best Baker in America. Still, any talented baker needs to be able to make a themed dessert.

The mini desserts should quite stunning. This challenge should be relatively easy for these bakers. Many desserts are based on a theme or tell a story.

It will be interesting to see if the baker push the flavor boundaries for the Skills Challenge. If these desserts are intended for a movie premiere, the flavor profiles might need to be very approachable.

For the Master Challenge, the bakers have a tall task ahead of them. Creating perfect themed cakes is quite difficult. These decorating skills are far different than elevated sugar art.
