Are you excited for the premiere of Gordon Ramsay Uncharted? Countless people voraciously devour the numerous Ramsay television shows and travel to eat at his many restaurants. In this new series, premiering on Nat Geo, the fiery chef shows how culinary adventure can expand everyone’s appreciate of food.

In the premiere episode, Ramsay travel’s to Peru’s Sacred Valley. While the location of each episode changes, the concept is constant. Ramsay explores local cultures, ingredients and people who influence that region’s food.

According to Nat Geo, this episode, Peru’s Sacred Valley, features the following.

"Chef Gordon Ramsay travels by motorbike through Peru’s Sacred Valley of the Incas to discover traditional high-altitude cuisine. Immersing himself in local culture, he scales cliffs; fishes in high-altitude lakes; and samples local delicacies like fried worms, rare multicolored potatoes and guinea pig before putting his newfound skills to the test with legendary local chef Virgilio Martinez."

There are some aspects this episode which will get foodies and non-foodies talking. Of course, the concept of non-traditional proteins (i.e. fried worms) usually gets a lot of attention. Maybe more people should understand the reasoning why and how people eat these foods before instantly reacting.

The biggest takeaway from this episode should be the thought and care that all cooks should use with their ingredients. From finding the freshest fruits to honoring the land that provided the food, these ideas can be conveyed into the final product. Sometime the finesse isn’t years training in a culinary school, it is the passion and love for the food that you are presenting to others.

Hopefully people will watch this premiere episode with an open mind and a sense of culinary adventure. While many people may not be willing to add insects to their family dinner, the concept doesn’t have to be that narrow. Maybe this episode encourages the home cook to try lamb for that next Sunday family dinner.
