Katie Lee, Food Network personality and cookbook author, shares her experience with the WLabs Smart Oven and explains why it is the must have small appliance.

Foodies know that Katie Lee is an expert at creating enticing menus, dining experiences and creative entertaining. While many people might think that these scrumptious dishes require numerous small appliances, Lee is showing how WLabs Smart Oven is the only small appliance that you need in the kitchen.

Personally, as a want-to-be chef, I have a pantry filled with all types of small appliances and kitchen gadgets. While I know that a chef’s knife, sauté pan and a cast iron skillet can probably handle the majority of cooking scenarios, I still collect gadgets and gizmos galore.

But, all those gadgets may not make cooking easier, simple or more enjoyable. A recent trend in the housewares industry shows multi-function small appliances are on the rise. Consumers want one appliance that can do it all.

The new WLabs Smart Oven exemplifies that concept of one appliance that does it all. More importantly, this smart oven takes the guesswork out of cooking. By eliminating the cooking intimidation factor, now everyone, even the person who can’t boil water, can make a delicious meal at the touch of a button.

Recently, Katie Lee showcased the versatility and functionality of the new WLabs Smart Oven. With three very different recipes, she showed how this small appliance could help make feel more confident with their cooking skills.

During my phone interview with Lee, I specifically asked her about how this oven seamlessly guides the user through the cooking experience. For example, she said, “you put something in the oven and then all of a sudden it comes up on the screen.” The oven detects the food and determines the best way to cook it.

Additionally, with the thermometer function, the process ensures that the food isn’t overcooked. For example, overcooked chicken breast is the worst. Lee said, “the thermometer feature insert that into the thickest part of the chicken breast and it’s going to shut off when it’s done cooking.”

Anyone who has had to eat overcooked chicken breast knows that this cooking mistake makes for a poor eating experience. Since the WLabs Smart Oven takes the guess work out of cooking, even the most novice cook can feel confident in the kitchen.

With the WLabs Smart Oven being a multi-function small appliance, the home cook can explore more foods, flavors and recipes easily. For example, many people love fried foods, but buying a separate air fryer may not be feasible. Since this appliance has an air fry option, it gives the home cook more versatility.

Lee commented that she uses the air fry option often. She said, ”I love anything deep fried,” and some of her recipes show how flavorful that method of cooking can be. With the air fryer option, she can get the same crisp texture but in a simpler cooking method.

For example, Lee shared this recipe for her Coconut Shrimp.

"Coconut ShrimpINGREDIENTS• 24 large shrimp, peeled and deveined with tail left on• Salt and pepper• 1/2 cup cornstarch• 3 egg whites, beaten until slightly foamy• 2 cups flaked coconut• Canola oil• 1/2 cup Orange marmaladeINSTRUCTIONSSeason shrimp with salt and pepper. Toss shrimp in cornstarch to coat, then dip in egg whites and dredge in coconut, pressing the coconut onto the shrimp."

She demonstrated this shrimp recipe using the air fry option. She said it gets “great crunch” with the shrimp. Plus, you “know that you’re going to get it done right.”

Again, these items are key for any home cook. Getting out a Dutch Oven and dealing with oil can be cumbersome. With this method, any recipe becomes simplified.

Lastly, the WLabs Smart Oven allows the home cook to experiment with many options that they may not have considered. For example, the small appliance has a dehydrator option.

While some people might have toyed with the idea of this kitchen gadget, it can be large and cumbersome to store. Since it is one of the functions in this small appliance, people can see how dried fruits can be more than just a snack.

For example, Lee uses dehydrated limes in her margaritas. She said, “I always kind of thought about buying (one) but never did because I don’t have a storage space for it. So you can put in fruit dehydrated but it takes about six hours, you can do it before you go to bed at night and wake up and have it.”

Since Lee is known for her blend of entertaining and delicious food, she feels that this small appliance is perfect for the home cook who loves to entertain. Lee said, “I want to make it as easy as possible on myself so that I enjoy my guests and make them feel comfortable. “

In a way, she encourages people to enjoy the moment while entertaining. “ It doesn’t matter if you made the most amazing gourmet meal but you were hoping to get it done and in the kitchen the whole time they would have had a better time and you just ordered a pizza.”

With this Smart Oven, the home cook can easily take that approach. With a push of a button, she can feel confident that any recipe will be amazing when it is done.

In a way, it could even spark some creativity in the kitchen. When food and function meet, the possibilities are endless.

The WLabs Smart Oven is available for pre-order. The current price is $799. Considering its multi-function aspect, the price is quite reasonable.

I would like to thank Katie Lee for chatting with me. Her cookbook Endless Summer is available online and in stores. Also, you can see her on Food Network’s The Kitchen. The show airs Saturdays at 11 a.m. ET.
