The Food Network kitchen is getting colorful. On the Kids Baking Championship Season 7 premiere, these talented young bakers are ready to rise to the occasion.

Kids Baking Championship Season 7 is going to be bigger, bolder and better than ever. With Duff Goldman and Valerie Bertinelli back to guide these young bakers, this season’s challenges will show how talented these kids are. Could you bake one of these colorful cakes from scratch?

According to Food Network, the Kids Baking Championship Season 7 premiere episode, “Splatter Up!” synopsis states:

"Valerie Bertinelli and Duff Goldman challenge the nine young bakers to get creative and colorful. Cakes in assigned flavors like chocolate, red velvet and coconut are splattered with color – the brighter and crazier, the better!"

First, looking at this episode, it can be a great example why bakers of all ages enjoy this show. This type of challenge blends the idea that baking needs to be both visually appealing and tasty.

There should be a huge element of fun. Sweet treats are about enjoyment, smiles and a little something special. Those treats don’t need to be brown and boring.

Even though the challenge gives the kids permission to embrace the rainbow, it can’t just be random. The colors needs to blend. No one wants a grey cake nor should a cake have such mis-matched colors that it is jarring.

At the same time, the cakes need to be well made. A colorful cake that fails on the bake isn’t acceptable. Hopefully these young bakers are familiar with the cake flavors that they are assigned. Given that this series is a kids’ challenge, the flavors shouldn’t be too out of the box.

Looking at the nine bakers who are competing, they should be able to handle this first challenge. Several of these young bakers own their own bakeries.

Can you imagine being a kid and having your own baking business? Duff better watch out. These kids are coming for his King of Cakes title.

As a home baker watching this show, it can be more than just entertaining. Kids tend to be more willing to think outside of the box. While they all have strong technique, they are more willing to explore flavors.

Sometimes an older baker might not take a risk, but a younger baker might take a different approach. Why not try a non-typical flavor combination? What is the worst that can happen, you have to make another dessert.
