MasterChef Season 10 episode 17 preview: Prepare for another mystery box

After speeding to the finish line, this MasterChef episode has the home cooks wondering if this mystery box is filled with too many ingredients.

While the home cooks were excited to be in the MasterChef Top 10, this mystery box challenge could make them wonder about their accomplishment. While these unlucky chefs didn’t race to victory in the team challenge, they do have a chance for redemption.

According to FOX, this episode, “Box in a Box in a Box” synopsis states: “The contestants face a mystery box challenge where they are surprised with more mystery ingredients than ever before; Gordon gives a master demonstration to the contestants.”

Yes, this short synopsis doesn’t necessarily say a lot about the challenge. In most recent mystery box challenge, the home cooks took on bread. Given that there is a master demonstration in this episode, the challenge might require more technical skill.

The biggest clue in this synopsis is the “more mystery ingredients.” Given that Gordon is going a demonstration, could this challenge be a ratatouille?

A ratatouille would require expert knife skill, good time management and developed flavors. While the peasant dish can seem simple, it is far from it. Sometimes the simplest dishes are the hardest to master.

Of course, there are many, many type of challenges that could come from this broad synopsis statement. Given that MasterChef Season 10 is meant to be bigger, more challenging than ever, the show could have something quite different planned.

Looking at the 10 remaining home cooks, a few cooks have seemed to rise to the occasion. Dorian has been on a role. In the past couple of challenges, her skill and flavors have impressed the judges. But, sweet week is over and MasterChef is more than just baking.

Some home cooks, like Noah and Sarah have had more downs than ups recently. While they are both talented, they need to get their cooking back on point.

Still, the most important aspect to remember in this competition is to always have a good day in the kitchen. At this point, one bad day in the kitchen could send someone home.
