The 2019 World Series is almost here, and so is Taco Bell‘s popular “Steal a Base, Steal a Taco” promotion.

If a member of the National League’s Washington Nationals or the American League’s Houston Astros or New York Yankees (that series isn’t decided yet) steals a base during a World Series game, then participating Taco Bell locations will give out one free Doritos Locos Taco per customer on a given day during a set timeframe.

The promotion began in 2013, and there is a similar promotion, “Steal a Game, Steal a Taco,” that runs each year during the NBA Finals if a road team wins a game.

“When it comes to the World Series, rooting for that first stolen base and rejoicing for free tacos has really become the game within the game. So, teaming up with BetMGM to give fans a whole new way to participate in ‘Steal A Base, Steal A Taco’ felt like a natural extension for us,” Will Bortz, Taco Bell director of brand partnerships and sponsorships, said in a press release.

“We can’t wait to see fans engage with the program like never before and, of course, we’re excited to see if their predictions come true.”

Given the legalization of sports betting over the past year in many states across the country, this year Taco Bell is partnering with BetMGM to allow fans to wager actual money on who will be this year’s “Taco Hero” (their term for the player who first steals a base during the series).

Fans who want in on this aspect of the game can play at MGM Resorts in Mississippi, New Jersey and Nevada, in New Jersey on the BetMGM app, or in Nevada on the PlayMGM app.

“Taco Bell’s ‘Steal a Base, Steal a Taco’ promotion is one of the most talked about and engaging initiatives in all of sports, and we are thrilled to be taking part in this fun and interactive experience,” Matt Prevost, chief marketing officer of Roar Digital, said in a press release.

The nice thing about baseball, besides all the unique stadium snacks at the ballpark, is that the pace of the game moves so slowly someone could run to the nearest Taco Bell and pick up food for everyone at the watch party without missing much of the action.

If that’s too much trouble, they could always use a service like DoorDash, GrubHub or Uber Eats as well.

Depending on when the stolen base occurs, the date the free tacos will be available will vary, but typically this promotion takes place during the afternoon hours on Tuesdays or Thursdays.

While it isn’t necessary for a customer to purchase anything else in order to receive the free Doritos Locos Taco, it would be polite.
