According to Pepsi, the program is straightforward. Unique QR codes on packaging could win cash prizes and that cash prize can be gifted to whoever the winner chooses.

Todd Kaplan, VP of Marketing, Pepsi said, “So, whether you gift your winnings to a friend, a family member, or someone else, Pepsi wants to make it easier for you to get into the gifting spirit this holiday season.”

In a way, this program has broader impact. Sure, the idea of giving gifts is part of the holiday season, but the concept of generosity is needed now more than ever. Even the smallest gesture of helping one person could spur a flurry of positive actions. Just like paying it forward, shouldn’t more people remember to gift it forward this holiday season?

While the Gift It Forward with Pepsi occurs on a the individual level, Pepsi is leveraging its sports partnership with the Gift It Forward with Pepsi Cash Cam. During select NFL and NHL games, the “kiss cam” will be transformed into the “gift cam.”

According to Pepsi, “At select NHL and NFL games, Pepsi will pick one Pepsi fan in the crowd and broadcast them on the jumbotron where they will make the decision to either keep cash for themselves or gift forward 10X the amount of cash to another row in the stadium – while the entire arena or stadium watches!” Select games include the following teams: “Miami Dolphins, Washington Redskins, New York Giants, New York Jets, Pittsburgh Steelers, Dallas Cowboys, St. Louis Blues, Tampa Bay Lightning, Washington Capitals and Colorado Avalanche.”

Again, this promotion is a wonderful reminder that it is often better to give than receive. Sure, that one person might miss out on a cash prize, but the good will from gifting an entire row gifts is far greater. Hopefully, no one will be a Grinch this season.

Lastly, Pepsi is partnering with iHeartMedia and Elvis Duran & The Morning Show to encourage all their listeners to consider giving it forward this holiday season.
