Christmas Cookie Challenge Season 3 episode 1 preview: Cookie art
Can Christmas cookies be a work of art? In this Christmas Cookie Challenge episode, cookie mosaics might be too pretty to eat.
In this episode of Christmas Cookie Challenge, the talented bakers put their artistic skills on display. While taste is always the most important, these sugar works of art might be museum worthy. Will you be brave enough to bite into those beauties?
According to the Food Network, this episode of Christmas Cookie Challenge, “Picture-Perfect Christmas” features the following:
"Eddie Jackson invites five of America’s finest cookie makers to take on the world of fine art by assembling spectacular cookie mosaics. Judges Ree Drummond, Dwayne Ingraham and Gesine Prado decide if all the pieces fall into place. Then the cookie masters have to arrange decorated cookies into a single image worthy of display in the Louvre Museum. The infuse their edible art with cheery liqueurs like kirsch, creme de menthe, anisette and blue curacao. Proving that there’s money in art, the prettiest cookie platter wins one cookie maker a $10,000 prize."
Mosaic cookies are quite difficult to make well. Although the cookies are colorful and beautiful, they need a steady hand and some great skill. It will be interesting to see how these bakers tackle this difficult challenge.
For the second challenge, it almost sounds like a puzzle. If one piece of the puzzle is missing, does that mean the piece of art is forever broken?
Even more difficult is the liqueur flavors. No one would want to use blue curacao. That flavor (and potentially color) could be the hardest of the them all.
Overall, adding liqueur to a cookie takes a deft hand. While the flavor needs to come through, it cannot overpower nor can it missing. It will be interesting to see what type of cookies work best with these flavors.
