Ready for a new Food Network obsession? Santa’s Baking Blizzard might take your breath away this holiday season. By combining cake and ice sculptures, these teams need to create picture perfect holiday displays.
According to the Food Network, the Santa’s Baking Blizzard premiere, “Countdown to Christmas” states:
"Casey Webb challenges three teams of Christmas bakers and their ice sculptors to create colossal Christmas tree cake displays complete with edible presents, ornaments and pyrotechnics. The team whose creation impresses judges Jocelyn Delk Adams, Amanda Freitag and Zac Young the most advances to the grand finale."
This new Food Network show seems to take the traditional competition show and magnify it. The pyrotechnics could be quite a sight. How will that heat affect the ice sculptures?
More importantly, it will be curious to see what the judges consider a colossal Christmas tree cake display. Is this challenge just about height or does colossal mean something else?
Give that this challenge combines both cake and ice sculptures, it will be interesting to see how these two elements interact in the Santa’s Baking Blizzard premiere. Usually, bakers want to keep liquid, especially water, away from cake displays. No one wants melting fondant.
Lastly, this new show is trying to set itself apart from the iconic “Wars” shows. From Halloween to Holiday Wars, foodies love those shows. It will be curious to see how this show sets itself apart from other Food Network shows. Hopefully Zac Young will throw out a few zingers to keep fans engaged.
