As many people celebrate Lunar New Year, do you know which foods can bring good fortune? Even if you are not superstitious, all these foods are tasty.

Lunar New Year is a huge celebration around the world. Since food and celebrations are often perfect pairings, certain foods surge in popularity during the annual celebration. Whether consider lucky or just traditional, these tasty foods might be a good choice for the celebration and beyond.

Recently, DoorDash studied customers’ orders during the previous Lunar New Year celebration. According to their data, they found seven foods that were quite popular during the annual celebration. Whether you order all of them or just one, this list could make you crave a few options for dinner tonight.

Here are some lucky foods for Lunar New Year.

Dumplings

Dumplings have always been part of a Lunar New Year celebration. In addition to representing wealth, steamed dumplings are said to look like ancient Chinese gold currency. While few people have mastered the art of making them at home, everyone enjoys ordering some dumplings from their favorite restaurant.

Noodles

Whether a bold Pad Thai or a mild Lo Mein, noodles are always a must during the annual celebration. Based on tradition, it is said that the long noodles bring longer life. It is definitely time to get slurping on some long noodles.

Rice

While sticky rice might be perfect for sushi, there is a belief about sticky rice. Apparently sticky jasmine rice is a symbol of a family sticking together. Maybe place an extra order to ensure that everyone has enough.

Garlic

While many foods contain garlic, there is a tradition that says people should eat lots of garlic to bring lots of money in the New Year. In a way, that idea makes sense. Garlic is found in almost every Chinese dish. Just remember the after dinner mints.

Red foods

Red is a traditional color during the Lunar New Year (think about the red envelopes). Red is associated with good luck, fortune and joy. Why not try a new red food for the annual celebration. Some red bean ice cream might be a new twist on the red food.

Rice

While rice is in so many dishes, rice cakes are a traditional food. Rice cakes celebrate family unity and prosperity. Although traditional rice cakes might be hard to find, mochi is a great substitute. Why not add an order of mochi to your DoorDash order.

Chicken

Not another chicken sandwich debate, but chicken dishes are popular during the annual celebration. Chicken dishes celebrate a good marriage between families. Maybe that is why chicken is such a popular wedding food.

Based on the DoorDash data, these lucky foods are just a sampling of how some people celebrate Lunar New Year. Whether you order one or many of these foods, the Year of the Rat will be off to a tasty start.
