The highly anticipated Tournament of Champions Food Network competition is here. Guy Fieri is ready to kick off this ultimate culinary competition.

16 chefs are ready to battle in Tournament of Champions. The ultimate bracket style culinary competition hosted by Guy Fieri will be the must watch Food Network show. Could the first episode bust your bracket?

According to the Food Network, the Tournament of Champions premiere episode, “The Tournament Begins” features the following:

"Guy Fieri welcomes 16 of the greatest chefs in the world to the most-intense culinary competition ever held. The chefs are ranked, and the first round battle lines are drawn, setting up epic clashes between two best friends, a would-be David and Goliath and a motivated underdog determined to take out the one of the competition’s heaviest hitters."

First, no one wants to hear that they are “ranked” below another chef. Chefs have egos and they never want to appear lesser than another chef, especially someone that they know. That ranking could make certain chefs fight even harder.

While not mentioned in the synopsis, the randomizer (I.e. how the competition determines the proteins, cooking methods, etc.) will have an impact on the competition. Although all these chefs are quite accomplished, some ingredients, cooking methods, etc. will benefit some chefs over others.

Although FoodSided made some predictions on round one, there could be a few upsets (and a busted bracket). Still, foodies just want to see some amazing dishes. They want to see the chef’s creativity. Hopefully, the smack talk will be minimal. Let the chefs’ food do the talking.

Given the popularity of culinary competitions, Tournament of Champions is an evolution of the Food Network programming. While Iron Chef might be a classic, this new competition is high paced and intense.

Still, it will be nice to see some commentary on the hows and whys of each dish. Even without Alton Brown sharing his culinary insight, someone might need to offer explanations. This show needs to be as much about the food as it is about the battle.

In the end, only one chef will win. The East or the West will reign supreme. Here’s how to watch.
