Blending savory and sweet can be a flavor explosion. The Jelly Belly Bean Boozled Fiery Five Challenge could have you re-thinking your heat tolerance.

Can you handle the heat? The Jelly Belly Bean Boozled Fiery Five Challenge takes blending sweet and heat to a whole new level. If you are ready to set your mouth on fire, open a package and take a spin. Do you dare?

While food trends come and go, bold spice has continued to be a top food trend. From sriracha becoming a common table condiment to the over the top Scoville levels in peppers, the jalapeno pepper is starting to look a little bland.

That spice trend has crossed beyond savory dishes and into sweets and desserts. Chocolate and peppers is coming more common. Whether it is a sprinkle of cayenne or even a finely chopped jalapeno, the rich chocolate adds dimension with the heat.

Candy companies are starting to see that burst of heat infused flavor doesn’t have to be limited to just chocolate. Jelly Belly Bean Boozled Fiery Five Challenge is the prefect example.

Jelly Belly Bean Boozled has been had many incarnations. From Harry Potter to Minions to just a classic version, the change of getting a “good flavor” versus getting a “uncommon” flavor is left to the luck of the spin. Still, while these other flavors might sound “questionable,” there was never a flavor that was just inedible. Even though Minion farts weren’t so bad.

With the Jelly Belly Bean Boozled Fiery Five Challenge, there is no where to hide. All the flavors can, and probably will, set your tongue on fire. If you are spice adverse, make sure that there is a glass of milk within your reach.

The five flavors are cayenne, jalapeno, sriracha, habanero and Carolina reaper. For many people, adding a sprinkle of cayenne to a dish isn’t overwhelming. Even that stuffed jalapeno pepper is quite enjoyable. If you think that you are brave enough, this challenge might have you re-thinking your spice tolerance.

Recently, FoodSided had the opportunity to take the Fiery Five Challenge. Setting out the various flavors, the though was, we’re foodies, just how spicy could these jelly beans really be? The answer – really. Even for our resident hot sauce king.

We had three people try this challenge with varying results. Personally, I tapped out at sriracha. Even though I have had ghost pepper on chicken wings, these jelly beans definitely put my mouth on fire. Even my face got tingly and, yes, milk was drunk after the challenge.

It wasn’t that the heat hit all at once. It was the longer linger that just didn’t go away. Who would have through that a little jelly bean could pack such a big flavor punch.

For our resident hot sauce king, he almost made it through the challenge. But, Carolina reaper was beyond his reach. While he didn’t reach for the milk, he just was n’t up for all five flavors. He thought that if the jelly beans were mixed into another dessert, these jelly beans could be even better.

Lastly, the final taste tester happily devoured all of the five flavors without too much compliant. While there was a comment of “ohh, that’s spicy” he didn’t complain. Additionally, he even grabbed three different flavors at once and eat them together.

The biggest takeaway from this Fiery Five challenge is that it is a personal preference. Just like any flavor, everyone has different tolerance levels and favorite flavors. But, if you are really cannot handle anything spicy, this Bean Boozled challenge might not be the best choice.

The Jelly Bean Bean Boozled Fiery Five Challenge is available at various retailers. There is a small package and a larger package option.
