After last week’s big upset, Tournament of Champions is back with three more first round battles. Which chefs have the chops to make the finale eight?

Food Network’s Tournament of Champions had everyone baffled by last week’s unlikely upset in the East bracket. While some people might have guessed that some twist was brewing as the episode began, the judges’ decision proves that anyone can have a bad or a good day in the kitchen. What other twists could happen this season?

According to the Food Network, “Round One Continues” features the following:

"Guy Fieri presides over tense battles as six new chefs fight desperately to advance out of the first round of the Tournament of Champions. Friendships are tested, reputations are on the line, and rivals go head-to-head in a nail-biting clash for the ages."

Looking at these battles, the rankings really may not come into play. It is quite possible that Christian Petroni could take down Marc Murphy. While Murphy might be a Food Network veteran, Petroni has tremendous cooking talent. He could be out to prove himself among these Food Network heavy weights.

Probably the most interesting match-up will be Freitag versus Falkner. These two women chefs have numerous accolades and could be evenly matched. Still, the edge could go to Falkner. Her pastry knowledge has served her well in other Food Network challenges.

Lastly, the Beau MacMillan versus Richard Blais match-up could be contentious. Blais was very unhappy about his ranking. Granted, Blais is well known in competition shows and has an exceptional culinary background, but someone didn’t think that he was a top four contender. Could that slight amount of resentment fuel him to a huge victory?

Truthfully, the challenges really depend on the randomizer and the chefs’ adaptability. The combination of ingredients, cooking methods and flavors require creativity. There is no skipping over an ingredient or skirting a cooking method. These chefs better bring their A game or risk being eliminated.
