Top Chef All Stars LA Season 17 episode 9 preview: Cabin Fever
After a chaotic Restaurant Wars, Top Chef All Stars LA looks to the great outdoors for a little cooking inspiration. Will this camp experience be too much roughing it?
As Top Chef All Stars LA nears the finish line, the chefs ditch the Top Chef kitchen and head to Summer Camp. While this camping might not be Camp Getaway, it will require the chefs to bring some creativity to the grill. Will this camping experience be too rough for some chefs?
According to Bravo, this Top Chef All Stars LA episode, “Cabin Fever” features the following:
"The chefs head to the mountains, a few hours outside of Los Angeles to go to Summer Camp where they are challenged to an outdoor grilling Quickfire for Padma and “Top Chef” Kentucky winner Kelsey Barnard Clark. Before the sun rises, the chefs get to work on an upscale brunch buffet for 200 moms vacationing at the camp using a very limited stock pantry. It’ll take more than s’mores and a round of kumbayas to impress the moms, the judges Tom, Padma and Gail, and guest judge “Top Chef” Charleston Winner Brooke Williamson."
Bringing Kelsey Barnard Clark back to this competition is great for the chefs. Kesley knows how to grill some tasty dishes. It will be curious to see how she critiques this group of Top Chefs.
For the Elimination Challenge, the idea of serving 200 moms is daunting. Without even considering the aspect of a limited pantry, the sheer number of dishes is difficult in the best of circumstances.
Additionally, the idea of brunch can be equally difficult. Brunch can be both sweet and savory, breakfast and lunch. If the chefs do not have a clear direction, their dishes could be in a bad limbo area.

After last week’s somewhat shocking elimination, the chefs were delivered a wake-up call. Everyone is only as good as his last dish. All the accolades do not matter in this competition. It is about the food on the plate in the moment.
