Celebrate Pride Weekend with colorful, flavorful treats

While Pride Weekend takes a virtual turn, Pride themed treats celebrate vibrantly.

Pride Weekend is often a colorful celebration filled with parades and parties. Although the physical celebrations might look a little different, the celebration is just as festive. Whether it is an unstoppable parade, a special cocktail or just a time to embrace the diversity, the moment needs to be observed.

Various local restaurants, businesses and other establishments are taking a moment to show their support of the LGBTQ+ community. With all these events, more people will understand that this weekend is the time to celebrate love and inclusivity.

For example, Coolhaus has created the EnjoyMINT for All. This special frozen dessert starts with a dairy-free peppermint based and mixes in chocolate cookie crumbs and a vibrant, gooey purple marshmallow swirl. Although it might not have all the colors in the rainbow, one spoonful will have any feeling festive.

While people will enjoy this tasty frozen treat, Coolhaus is using EnjoyMINT for All to raise funds and awareness for the LGBTQIA+ community. Sales from the Coolhaus Scoop Shop in Culver City, California will be donated to The Okra Project, “an organization actively addressing the global crisis faced by Black Trans people by providing them with home cooked, healthy, and culturally specific meals and resources.”

Since many people will be celebrating at home, Coolhaus is encourage people to make their most fabulous ice cream floats this weekend. Anyone who participates is encouraged to take #Pride2020 and @Coolhaus on social media.

If you prefer a savory celebration for Pride Weekend, Smashburger will be celebrating National Pride Day on June 28 by offering a BOGO Crispy Chicken Smash offer. The Crispy Chicken Smash is a “70 percent bigger golden fried, cracker-crusted chicken breast and served with lettuce, tomato, onion and mayo on a classic bun.” Why not grab a friend and enjoy some chicken sandwiches together?

Besides frozen treats and chicken, the Pride Weekend celebration deserves a festive cocktail. Ketel One Vodka partnered with NYC bartender Fanny Chu on a special cocktail. Her All Tea No Shade cocktail is the perfect drink to celebrate love, inclusivity and the LGBTQ+ community.

If you would like to raise of glass of All Tea No Shade, here’s how to make one for Pride Weekend.

All Tea No Shade

Ingredients

  • 1.5 oz Ketel One Vodka
  • 1.5 oz Hibiscus Tea and Strawberry Syrup
  • .75 oz lemon juice
  • 6 mint leaves
  • Top with seltzer

Method

Add ice and everything but the seltzer in a shaker, short shake, and strain. Top with seltzer

Here’s how to make Hibiscus Tea and Strawberry Syrup

Ingredients

  • 1.5 Cup strawberries hulled and quartered
  • 1 cup filtered water
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 hibiscus tea bags

Method

  • Macerate strawberries and sugar and let sit.
  • At the same time, bring water to boil, take off stove and add hibiscus tea bags.
  • Let sit for 5 minutes. After 5 minutes, toss out tea bags and add macerated strawberry sugar to hibiscus tea.
  • Stir until sugar is dissolved. You might have to heat until no longer grainy.
  • Strain and store in a sealed container until ready to use. Good for 2 -4 weeks.
