If your coffee flavor needs an upgrade, add a pinch of this ingredient.

What makes coffee flavor better? While everyone has a preferred way to take their coffee, there is a simple trick to make that coffee just more flavorful. Actually, the idea is something that any good chef already knows.

In a recent Food Network app class, Claire Thomas shared a simple trick to many coffee flavor just better. It is salt. While cooks know that salt always brings out the flavor in any dish, salt can turn blah coffee into a more enjoyable experience.

Many people add extra sugar or cream to a cup of coffee to remove the bitterness. By adding all those extras, it only masks the real issue. Bitter coffee does not taste good.

According to Thomas, a pinch of salt can and does make a big difference. She said, “The salt chemically words with that acid in the coffee and it makes it a little more alkaline.” The result is that coffee flavor is more rounded.

At the same time, coffee should not be salted to the point of tasting like the sea. It is just a pinch, a small sprinkle.

While Thomas explored this idea in her Food Network class, it isn’t the first time that the salt trick has been used. Alton Brown talked about this idea. Since salt neutralizes the acid, sugar may not even be needed.

When thinking about salt, it is often the balance in dishes. That pinch of salt in a dessert makes the sweetness pop. That idea is why some dessert recipes include salt.

Some of the best food hacks are simple. Whether it is the pinch of salt to enhance coffee flavor to freezing avocados to a variety of other ideas, those food hacks can make a big difference in the kitchen.
