Holiday Baking Championship shows that combining flavors and desserts is a holiday food tradition.

Ready for a little dessert surprise? In this Holiday Baking Championship episode, the bakers need to put their pie creativity to the test. Is the kitchen filled with sweet dreams or pie pandemonium?

According to the Food Network, this Holiday Baking Championship episode, “Take Holiday Pies by Surprise,” features the following:

"Host Jesse Palmer loves both cookies and pies, so he asks the nine bakers to make holiday cookie-topped mini pies. Then, Nancy Fuller, Duff Goldman and Carla Hall judge the pie pandemonium as the competitors celebrate fall with flavor combos such as pumpkin-cider and chestnut-chocolate in double crust, cream pies, slab pies, lattice pies and custard pies."

Looking at this week’s challenge, pies are probably one of the most dreaded desserts on any Food Network baking competition. Even under the best of circumstances, creating the perfect pie can be difficult. Under these time constraints and kitchen conditions, it is a tall order.

For the pre-heat, these desserts might inspire home bakers. Why can’t pies and cookies combine to make an ultimate holiday dessert. Just like eating dessert first, why should you have to choose between one flavor option.

As for the main heat, this challenge could create a big shift on the naughty and nice list. While last week’s episode showed a change to the leader board, not everyone in the kitchen is confident with baking pies. Could it be Jon’s week to go?

The only question left on the table is how many bakers will use bourbon or other liquor in a pie this week? While Nancy loves a little “snort” the other judges need some love, too.
