Sesame Street cereal has kids starting the day in a whole new way.

Mornings are about to have a new routine with Sesame Street cereal. With a little help from kids’ favorite characters, breakfast takes a new approach to the most important meal of the day. Combining an element of play with that cereal bowl, this new General Mills cereal looks to nourish the body and mind.

For many families, Sesame Street and its beloved characters have grown with their children. From early learning to grappling with current issues, the iconic program has a way connecting with children in an age-appropriate way. Even as children get older, they never lose that connection to those favorite characters.

This new collaboration between Sesame Street and General Mills could spark a new approach to cereal and breakfast. While a nutritious meal is always a smart choice to start the day, the play aspect on the box engages kids minds. By taking a two-fold approach, this cereal could change many families’ morning routines.

Since breakfast has become the family meal, this idea of food and fun is quite intriguing. Hillary Balma, Senior Brand Manager, General Mills, said, “We are thrilled to team up with Sesame Street, to launch cereals with key nutrients, delicious flavors, and playful learning opportunities to make breakfast that much more meaningful for parents and kids alike.”

Many parents appreciate the mealtime struggle. While kids might have opinions, parents want strong nutritional choices that can help kids throughout the day. When a food can strike that balance, it is a win for everyone. Additionally, when food is fun, kids will want to come back time and again.

The Sesame Street cereal is available in two varieties, berry flavor and cinnamon flavor. The berry flavor focuses on number shaped pieces, while the cinnamon flavor features letter shaped pieces. Also, the Sesame Street Cereal offers a good source of whole grain, fiber, calcium, vitamin D and vitamin E.

In a new approach to the packaging, the back of each box opens like a book. The short stories featuring Elmo are available in both English and Spanish.

As Gabriela Arenas, Vice President of Licensing, North America, Sesame Workshop, said, “Sesame Workshop’s mission is to help kids grow smarter, stronger, and kinder, and that means nourishing the mind and body.” This cereal seems to accomplish that goal.

Whether kids read the book or parents read to them, it could be a way to engage a conversation during breakfast. Even if the stories become familiar, it could foster an appreciation for reading and encourage a little imagination. And, maybe that cereal bowl could hold a discovery. From creating words out of the letters to counting the numbers, the possibilities are many.

The Sesame Street cereal will be available starting in January 2021. The new General Mills cereal will be available at most major retailers.
