Doritos 3D Crunch returns with Chili Cheese Nacho and Spicy Ranch flavors
It is official Doritos 3D Crunch is back with two new craveable flavors.
No more speculation, Doritos 3D Crunch are returning after a 20-year hiatus. While that official announcement is yummy food news, the tasty part of the announcement is the new flavors for that three-dimensional shape Frito-Lay snack. Which one will you try first, Chili Cheese Nacho or Spicy Ranch flavor?
With the return of the Doritos 3D Crunch, it seems that 90s snacks have been one of the food trends of 2020. Many people are wanting a taste of their childhood. Whether it is comfort food or just a blast from the past, returning snack food is having a moment.
Some people will remember that iconic Super Bowl commercial that introduced the Doritos 3D Crunch. While few people can master Ali Landry’s snacking skills, the commercial showed how this Doritos snack invites innovative eating.
With another nod to nostalgia, Landry will return to promote the new Doritos offering. Starting on December 28 via TikTok, Landry will invite everyone to participate in the #Doritos3DChallenge. Although you might not want a white shirt for potential spillage issues, it will be interesting to see how create snack fans will be with this food challenge.
Beyond just the return of this Doritos snack, the new flavors are the bigger reason to be excited. Recently, I was able to have a sneak peek taste test of the two new flavors, Chili Cheese Nacho and Spicy Ranch. Although I had a house divided on a preferred flavor, it was because it was hard to pick just one as the favorite.
The Spicy Ranch has a bold flavor, but the ranch tempers the spice. While not as bold as Blazin Ranch Doritos, the flavor does bring the heat.
Additionally, it is a stronger flavor than the original Zesty Ranch Doritos 3D Crunch. Still, the final taste is more cooling like a ranch which begs you to go back for another and another.
The Chili Cheese Nacho tastes similar to the flavor when you dip a tortilla chip into that classic dip. It is an inviting heat yet still tangy. The flavor isn’t overpowering. Instead, it offers just enough heat to make you go back to pop another one.
Adding the Chili Cheese Nacho was a smart choice for Frito-Lay. While the original Doritos 3D Crunch had Jalapeno Cheddar and Nacho Cheese, this new flavor is a little more nuanced. More importantly, it offers a great contrast to the Spicy Ranch.
While our house was divided on the preferred flavor, one idea was welcomed by all. Mix them together in a single bowl. That snack option made everyone happy.
Doritos 3D Crunch will be available at various retailers. Check with your preferred store for availability.
