Bringing one of the biggest pizza trends to the nation, the new Pizza Hut Detroit Pizza will have everyone skipping the fold, deep dish or that thin crust. After one bite of this cheesy, saucy goodness, pizza fans will fall in love with this Motor City classic.

While pizza might be many people’s favorite food, not all pizzas are the same. Beyond topping preferences or even dough thickness, regional style pizzas can offer a special connection for people. Although Chicago loves its deep dish and New Yorkers want to fold their slice, those two pizza types aren’t the only special pizza options.

Detroit pizza has been trending for a while. The classic rectangular pizza stands out in many ways. Baked in those rectangular shaped pans, a connection to the area’s automotive industry, it creates part of its uniqueness. But, the shape isn’t the only reason why this pizza is different than the rest.

What makes Pizza Hut Detroit Pizza so special?

Like all Pizza Hut innovations, this pizza was carefully crafted to ensure that each bite was authentic and would make Detroit pizza lovers happy. From the logo that plays off the automotive connection to the flavors, each and every bite is as if you got a slice from a local pizzeria close to Ford Field.

The new Pizza Hut Detroit Pizza focuses on a handful of items that makes this pizza special. First, the dough is proofed in the pan, which allows the perfect texture to blend with all the other elements. Without the right dough, the pizza is lost.

Second, the Pizza Hut has created a special sauce for this particular pizza. A slightly sweeter sauce, those flavors play off the cheese and toppings. Since a Detroit pizza has the sauce on top of a pizza, the sauce is key to the enjoyment. The sauce has a freshness that makes it quite enjoyable.

Additionally, the cheesy sides make this pizza different. Another aspect to the Detroit style pizza is that the cheese goes all the way to the side of the pizza (thanks to the pan). The result is a crunchy, cheesy goodness that adds to the enjoyment. It has people fighting over the corner piece of the pizza (just like corner pieces of brownies).

Lastly, Pizza Hut has special pepperoni for the Pizza Hut Detroit Pizza. The pepperoni cups are unique to this pizza. The flavor is slightly spicier. In addition, those pepperoni cups can get a little more of the pizza sauce which adds to the enjoyment of each bite.

Recently, I had the opportunity to try the Pizza Hut Detroit Pizza. If you have never had this style of pizza, the Pizza Hut version is a great introduction. The sauce and the pepperoni cups make it a stand out. The flavors are unique, and it shows the brand’s attention to detail.

A note of warning, this pizza is filling. Given the thicker dough, the cheese and the amount of pepperoni, it is a big bite. Unless you are super hungry teenagers, you might have to stop at just two slices.

The Pizza Hut Detroit Pizza comes in four varieties, Double Detroit Pepperoni, Double Cheesy, Meaty Deluxe and Supremo. The Double Detroit Pepperoni features 80 slices of pepperoni on one pizza. It is a pepperoni fan’s dream come true.
