The food component of a Kansas City themed Super Bowl party is more obvious. Whether Kansas City barbecue is served, some sliders or just a great dip, all the food deserves a tasty cocktail pairing. Any of these cocktails can pair with a variety of food menus.

Here are FoodSided’s recommended Kansas City cocktails to enjoy on Super Bowl Sunday.

Smokey Missouri Mule

Kansas City barbecue often has a smokey quality. With this cocktail, that smoky component comes from the mezcal. Combining that liquor with the spicy ginger beer and a touch of sweetness, it is both exciting and soothing.

Here’s how to make the smokey Missouri Mule

Ingredients

  • 5 oz Q Mixers Ginger Beer
  • 1 oz Bourbon
  • 0.5 oz Mezcal
  • 1 oz lemon juice
  • 0.5 oz agave syrup
  • 1 lemon wheel (garnish)

Method:

Shake all ingredients except the Q Mixers Ginger Beer. Strain into an ice filled mule mug and top with Ginger Beer.

The Kansas City Kicker

While Mahomes might be the big play maker, the kicker is the essential part of the team. In those clutch moments, it sometimes comes down to the kicker.

With this Kansas City cocktail, it has just the right amount of spice to bring up the flavor. At the same time, it delivers that freshness that makes you want more. Even if someone tries to ice you, this cocktail scores.

Recipe:

  • 1 oz Cointreau
  • 2 oz Blanco Tequila
  • 0.75 oz Fresh Lime Juice
  • 2 slices Jalapeño
  • 2 slices fresh cilantro

Directions:

  1. Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker.
  2. Add ice and shake until well-chilled
  3. Stain into a chilled Old Fashioned glass
  4. Garnish with a jalapeño pepper

Kansas City BBQ Sour

Continuing the barbecue theme, the cocktail from Teremana Tequila is a touch sweet. If you cannot find a cloudy apple juice, consider more of an apple cider or a fresh pressed apple juice.

Since barbecue sauce is thicker, it is important to dry shake the ingredients prior to shaking again with the ice. This method allows the barbecue sauce to break up and incorporate itself with the other ingredients. You do not want a clump of barbecue sauce in your cocktail.

Also, you can play with the maple syrup in this cocktail. A spicy maple syrup will add some more depth to the flavor.
