The crack of the bat is back, and Opening Day is here. While this year’s MLB season looks to be different than last year, there are still a few modifications to seeing a favorite team in person. Even if the hot dog vendor might not be roaming the stands, there are plenty of ways to raise a toast to Opening Day.

Baseball and food, like food and sports, always go hand in hand. The reality is that watching all those innings of play can make everyone thirsty. Whether you grab a hot dog, slice of pizza or prefer to sip on just a beverage, there is always a reason to toast to Opening Day.

Even if you aren’t sitting in stands today, there are plenty of ways to celebrate the return of baseball. The Rally Buds are back from Budweiser. While FoodSided might have kept that special beer encased in its protective container, the reality is that these beers are out for everyone to enjoy. Although, you might want to enjoy the beer before the seventh inning stretch.

How are you toasting Opening Day?

In addition to those Rally Buds, Budweiser stadium vendors are going to be out in Chicago and New York. Whether you are craving a classic Chicago Dog or prefer the NY water dog, these special events will give everyone a taste of the stadium experience. While some of the more unusual beer offerings have received much attention recently, the truth is that there are many great beers to enjoy. Although a classic lager is refreshing, it can be time to step outside the box. Enjoying one of these offerings might be a flavor home run.

For example, the Salt and Seed Gose from Elysian Brewing is perfect for a warm day enjoying baseball in the sun. The slightly sour beer has a hint of brininess. And, the addition of watermelon makes it quite refreshing.

Although not a light beer, the flavor is far from heavy. Almost a sessionable beer, it could be the new favorite pairing for nachos.

While beers and baseball are popular pairs, a themed cocktail might be the big hit of the day. Luckily, Southern Comfort has created a few cocktail ideas that will have everyone rounding the bases.

Here are a few recommendations for that home run of a baseball cocktail for Opening Day.

The Pitchers’ Punch

  • 750ml Southern Comfort (1 bottle)
  • 6 oz. lemon juice
  • 6 oz. can frozen lemonade
  • 6 oz. can frozen orange juice
  • 3 liters lemon-lime soda

The Double Play

  • 2 oz. Southern Comfort
  • 2 parts lemonade
  • 2 parts iced tea

And, many baseball stadiums are joining the food fun. As seen during other sports events, the vendors and providers are taking safety precautions and have been diligent in providing superb service for everyone involved.

At the same time, the menus are focusing on innovative flavors and highlight local establishments. For example, the Marlins are now featuring Salt & Straw at T-Mobile Park. Their new Creepy Crawly Critters will definitely have people talking.
