Do you remember what life was like before chocolate bombs? Okay, yes, they were basically hot chocolate packs that you’d mix with water or milk and top with baby marshmallows, but not nearly as cool to watch.

How did chocolate bombs gain its fame?

It likely all started with bath bombs, where you weren’t sure when the explosion would happen but you waited in anticipation anyway for the most beautiful masterpiece to be created..in your bath tub. Fast forward to 2020, where chocolate bombs (and all beverage bombs) gained their fame thanks to our favorite platform, TikTok.

The beverage accessory also likely became popular due to the crazy year 2020 threw at us. Basically all of our emotions bottled up waiting for us to crack, just like the chocolate bomb.

Either way, these chocolate bombs are super satisfying to watch.

Starbucks Shared a Caramel Coffee Bomb Recipe

Starbucks thankfully shared a coffee bomb recipe using all their at home products. Thinking maybe this is like K-Cups but way more authentic?

Pull out your grocery list, because here is what you will need to grab from the coffee aisle at your local grocery store.

  • Starbucks Caramel flavored ground coffee
  • Starbucks Espresso Roast ground coffee
  • 24 oz dark chocolate, chopped, your favorite brand of chocolate
  • 12 oz caramel sauce (you can get the exact Starbucks one too)
  • 6 hard caramel candies, crushed
  • Any other toppings you prefer in your coffee (maybe marshmallows? Why not?)

And the most important item, a silicone mold, to create the chocolate bomb shape that fits perfectly into your mug. This item may not be readily available at your grocery store, but you can find a variety of options online.

The Step-by-Step Guide from Starbucks

First, melt your chocolate. Starbucks suggested in 30-second intervals so it can be easily poured into your mold. If you’re nervous about making a mess, you can also use a paint brush to fill the molds. Then, let your chocolate cool and harden within the mold.

Once the chocolate takes the shape of the mold, you’ll fill each bomb with the Starbucks ground coffees, caramel syrup, and caramel candies. Here, you can add anything else you want! Maybe you like a little caramel creamer, add that too.

Finally, the part that makes the chocolate bomb so amazing. After each mold is filled, you’ll need to grab the unfilled sphere halves and melt the edges on a hot skillet. It’s important that you do this one by one so the chocolate doesn’t harden too fast. You’ll then take that half and match it perfectly to the half with your coffee toppings.

When your chocolate bomb is complete, top it off with a drizzle of caramel sauce and a few pieces of sea salt and place it in the fridge to cool off.

And that’s it! Now you have yourself a Starbucks Caramel Coffee Bomb, at home.
