After stacking all the layers of the Smith Island Cake, Best Baker in America Season 4 episode 3 journeys out west for some sweet huckleberries. Which dessert will tower above the rest?

According to Food Network, Best Baker in America Season 4 episode 3, “Rocky Mountain States” feature the following:

"The competition heads west toward the Rockies as the eight bakers must feature Montana and Idaho’s beloved huckleberries in their huckleberry pie-embouche pastry tower for the master challenge. In the bake-off challenge, it’s time to get jiggly and honor Utah’s state snack — gelatin — with a visually stunning creation containing both baked and gelatin components. Host Carla Hall and judges Gesine Prado and Jason Smith evaluate the desserts and give one baker their marching orders."

Cooking with the huckleberries will be an interesting challenge. These desserts need to be more than just a jam or a simple cookie. Finding ways to highlight the flavor but bringing something creative to the table will be key.

In addition, a pastry tower is an interesting choice for a challenge. Although these pastry towers should not have falling disasters like Spring Baking Championship, it will be interesting to see how a professional baker tackles this challenge.

For the bake-off, the gelatin dessert could have Food Network fans rediscovering that appreciation for gelatin. Granted, that ingredient is a component in many desserts. Still, many people just think of that Jell-O mold that Aunt Edna would bring to the holiday party.

While last week’s Best Baker in America episode had a top baker from the first episode eliminated, the reality with this Food Network competition is that each challenge stands on its own merits. Each baker has to excel in all of the challenges. It isn’t about the best pie baker or the best chocolate baker.

To earn the title Best Baker in America, the ultimate winner needs to prove that she has all the skills to impress the Food Network judges. Which baker will reach the summit of these Rocky Mountain desserts?
