Although Hell’s Kitchen Season 20 is just a few episodes into the new season, there have been more questionable moments in the kitchen than anyone had expected. Although the season has been labeled the Young Guns, the younger chefs have tested Gordon Ramsay in ways that no one could have expected. Is this culinary competition about the age or is it about the experience?

When Hell’s Kitchen Season was announced, the conversation focused on the younger age of the chefs. Sure, the jokes of “OK Boomer” were funny, but age is not always a determining factor. From sports to entertainment, age is just a number. Knowledge and numbers are not always a direct correlation.

In Hell’s Kitchen Season 20, the age issue is not the cause of the numerous mistakes in the kitchen. The problem with the inability to cook chicken is a cooking technique issue. Truthfully, any chef (or cook) should not serve Gordon Ramsay raw chicken. The cooking mistakes are mental mistakes.

Call it the pressure of the competition, the lack of experience, or something else, the reality is that age does not play into the conversation. Anyone who has watched MasterChef Junior appreciates that cooks under the age of 15 can properly cook chicken.

From the heat of the moment or the stress of the situation, the cooking flaws are plaguing some of the chefs in Hell’s Kitchen. Even if these chefs can produce an immaculate dish in their own space, the reality is that they aren’t doing it in the moment. Without being able to prove their worth, they will never earn a black jacket, let alone the Hell’s Kitchen title.

Looking at the first couple of episodes, it is quite amazing that Gordon Ramsay has kept his cool as well as he has. Although no one would say that Ramsay has mellowed, the reality is that raw chicken, multiple times, would make any chef lose his mind. How the entire Blue Team hasn’t received his wrath is head scratching.

Truthfully, the age issue is not a number concern; it is an immaturity. From the finger pointing to the thermometer gate, the reality is that these chefs need to understand their strengths and weaknesses. No one expects these chefs to be perfect, but they need to strive for better.

What do you think of Hell’s Kitchen Season 20? Can you predict a potential front-runner?
