Buddy vs Duff Season 3 episode 2 preview: Back to ancient times

In Buddy vs Duff Season 3 episode 2, the two teams travel back in time with this week’s theme. While Duff earned the Animal Kingdom win, this episode’s challenge might take a different turn. Could the old world cause a change in the total points lead?

According to Food Network, Buddy vs Duff Season 3 episode 2 “Ancient Worlds” features the following:

"Buddy Valastro and Duff Goldman face off over cakes featuring ancient worlds. Working in their studios on the East and West Coasts, they have just two days to build their creations with the help of their teams. Then they present their masterpieces to a panel of 50 exceptionally talented cake artists to choose the winner."

In the first episode, the two displays seemed to play to both Buddy’s and Duff’s strengths. Buddy went big with lots of elements packed into one scene. Whereas, Duff went for the big moment of the lion capturing its prey. It will be interesting to see how the two teams approach this challenge.

When thinking about ancient worlds, the possibilities are vast. From Rome to Greek to China to the Fertile basin, the reality is that these two cake displays will look very different. But, all the details need to be authentic. The baking team that strays away from the historical truth might be in trouble.

As seen in the preview videos, it seems likely that the Duff is going back to the tiny details. While this idea can be quite impressive in person, it might not translate to the new judging format. As long as the 50 cake artists can appreciate that intricacy, Duff’s team should be safe.

On the opposite side, Buddy cannot make some simple mistakes. As seen last week, Buddy’s team got knocked for some little items, like the fondant seam.
