Buddy vs Duff Season 3 episode 6 preview: A pirate’s treasure awaits

As the season approaches the end, the point totals prove that these two teams will have a fight to the finish. Although the loser will not have to walk the plank in shame, the reality is that only one team will have Food Network bragging rights at the end of this season. In Buddy vs Duff Season 3 episode 6, the teams take on a pirate theme. While dead mean tell no tales, what stories will these cake displays tell?

According to the Food Network, Buddy vs Duff Season 3 episode 6, “High Seas and High Stakes” features the following:

"Buddy Valastro and Duff Goldman take to the high seas to make pirate cakes. Team Duff creates a detailed ghost ship complete with special effects to make it ride the waves. Team Buddy builds an unlucky pirate being pursued by a smitten shark. The winner is chosen by 50 cake artists."

Looking at this episode description, it seems to tell a similar tale to the Ancient Times episode and might even have a similar approach. In that episode, Buddy’s gladiator with its expressive face won over the judges. Could that idea happen again?

The idea of an unlucky pirate being chased by a shark could be either humorous or spooky. As long as this display doesn’t appear cartoonish, Buddy should have a good chance to increase his point total.

Also, this cake display needs to have dynamic movement. The judges need to feel that moment of the chase. It needs to show the desperation. If Buddy’s team can do that, they will do well.

As for Duff’s display, the idea of a ghost ship could cause them to be walking the plank. While Duff has lots of big ideas, the showy aspects and special effects can be his downfall. Of course shooting cannons would be great, but the cake details are more important.

Looking at Duff’s most successful pieces, like the farm stand, it was about the details. Although the minutia might not always translate, the execution needs to be on point for this display.
