While the recent Pirate episode had some viewers claiming mutiny on the high seas, Buddy vs Duff Season 3 episode 7 could offer another controversial outcome. Will the judges prefer a classical take on architecture or will the fantasy capture their eye?

According to the Food Network, Buddy vs Duff Season 3 episode 7, Architectural Wonders features the following:

"Buddy Valastro and Duff Goldman face off in an architecture challenge. While Buddy travels back to ancient Egypt with his pyramids, Duff looks to his own future with a whimsical treehouse he imagines for his daughter. A panel of 50 cake artists get to choose the winner."

Throughout Buddy vs Duff, there really hasn’t been a clear pattern to the judges’ preferences. Given there are 50 cake artists on the panel, it makes sense that the opinion will vary, even change from week to week.

At the same time, Buddy Valastro, Duff Goldman and their respective teams are not going to stray from their strengths. Each team has a style that works for them. Whether it is big and flashy or intricate and innovative, each cake style has merit and an audience.

Looking at the two cake styles for this challenge, they are totally different. While everyone can see Buddy’s reference, that image is about the wow factor. The statement of “can you believe it’s cake.”

Ancient Egypt has a very exact reference, and everyone appreciates it. In some ways, this idea is slightly risky. If the details are wrong, the judges will notice.

In Duff’s cake display, it plays to people’s imagination. Without a clear frame of reference, the truth is the decision is more of a general preference. If the judges don’t get the concept, they may not vote for the cake. It doesn’t matter if there are a zillion techniques or cool effects. If the idea is too lofty, the whole point can be lost.
