Ready for a pitcher of seasonal sangria? During the winter months, warmer, spicy flavors fill the glass. From eggnog to winter beers, the beverage flavors tend to be hearty, filling and somewhat comforting. But, on a dreary, snow-covered day, a sip of bright, citrus flavors can bring a merriment that is an instant pick me up.

Sangria is often a favorite summertime beverage. Whether it is an excuse to have a libation with a side of fruit or the flavors that are quite refreshing, that pitcher seems to be always full.

As the seasons changed, that pitcher doesn’t have to be put away till the temperatures rise again. A seasonal sangria can be the perfect sip for any holiday gathering.

Since a sangria is fruit forward beverage, it is easy to take some seasonal flavors and incorporate them into the cocktail. In this version from TAZO, the holiday beverage takes the TAZO Unsweetened Iced Passion Tea base and mixes in various other fruit juices and spices.

While orange and clove are a common winter flavor combination, the cinnamon adds a depth and nuance that is unexpected. It seems to round out the brightness of all the citrus notes.

Although this recipe uses the fruit more as a garnish, it doesn’t mean that the fruit wheels can’t be eaten. While pirates might say they enjoy that soaked citrus to fight scurvy, anyone can enjoy an extra taste of fruit during the holiday season.

When pairing this seasonal sangria, consider contrasting some heavier flavors. From a baked ham to even a chicken pot pie, the bright, slightly floral notes can lighten up the heartier flavors.

And, don’t dismiss pairing this seasonal sangria with some dessert. From classic cut out sugar cookies to even a chocolate tart, this cocktail might be the versatile recipe that is used time and again.

Here’s how to make a seasonal sangria from TAZO.

Ingredients:

  • 1 32oz Carton of TAZO Unsweetened Iced Passion Tea Concentrate
  • 1 Cup 100% Pineapple Juice
  • 3/4 Cup 100% Orange Juice
  • 1/2 Cup 100% Ruby Red Grapefruit Juice
  • 3 Cups Hard Lime Seltzer *For non-alcoholic, substitute hard seltzer for lime seltzer or soda.
  • 6 Cinnamon Sticks
  • 1 Orange, Cut into Wheels
  • 1 Grapefruit, Cut into Wheels
  • Hibiscus Flower in Syrup

Directions:

  • Add all ingredients into a pitcher, punch bowl or beverage dispenser
  • Add 2 cups of ice and stir
  • Garnish with 6 hibiscus flowers, 8 orange and grapefruit wheels, and 6 cinnamon sticks

This recipe creates around 8-10 servings. Also, if the sangria is not going to be served right away, consider adding the ice later. If the ice melts too quickly, the cocktail will not have as concentrated a flavor. An ice bucket to the side where everyone can add cubes to their own glass can be a good option.
