Burger King gets toasted with new Whopper Melt

While guests always get food their way at BK, Burger King is testing some new menu items, including three versions of a Whopper Melt. Will these new food choices have guests feeling all warm and fuzzy after that first bite?

The Whopper is the most iconic Burger King menu item. While the classic burger has evolved to include a plant-based option, the heart of the classic recipe remains the same. It is that flame-grilled patty that brings the flavor that people crave.

What makes the Whopper Melt so craveable?

Have you ever had a Patty Melt? That combination of toast, burger and melted cheese is delicious. It is almost like a grilled cheese with the added bonus of beefy goodness.

The toasted bread helps to add texture while the melted cheese adds a touch of indulgence. Even if that melt adds onions, peppers or even bacon, the heart of the perfect bite is crunchy bread, gooey cheese and satisfying beef.

Those components are the basis for the new Whopper Melt. According to Burger King, it features two Whopper Jr Patties sandwiched between two slices of toast. Topped with “American cheese, caramelized onion and Stacker Sauce,” it is a hearty bite. Extra napkins are a definite must.

In addition to the classic version, Burger King offers a Spicy version and a Bacon option. The Spicy version adds jalapenos and a “creamy spicy sauce.” The Bacon option is self-explanatory, there’s bacon included.

Looking at the three offerings, the Bacon option might be the most popular choice. The extra richness from the bacon should be a nice contrast to the cheese, onion and burger. Plus, isn’t everything better with bacon?

As for the Spicy option, it might have been nice to have a non-creamy sauce. With the cheese, it might not be necessary to add more creamy/gooeyness. A bold sauce could cut through the richness a little.

While many people would love to run to their local Burger King to place an order, they might not find these new Whopper Melts. The offering is only available at select Ohio restaurants.

Could this new Burger King menu item be everywhere by the end of 2022? Only time will tell?
