While plant-based food has become more than a one-off trend, some people are still unwilling to make the switch. With the new Silk Nextmilk, the brand created a beverage that offers the taste and texture that dairy drinkers won’t give up.

There are many reasons why some people step away from dairy. Whether it is a lifestyle choice, a dietary choice or another reason, plant-based beverages have prime shelf space next to traditional dairy options.

Still, there are many people who cannot be convinced that a milk beverage can come from plants. Putting aside the various barbs, the taste and texture are often the sticking point. People want that luscious mouth feel. From filling the cereal bowl to a splash in the coffee mug, the switch needs to satisfy, or the change will not be permanent.

With the new Silk Nextmilk, the brand has found a way to entice dairy drinkers to pour themselves a glass. According to the brand, the beverage is “formulated to meet dairy-lovers’ taste expectations through a remarkably delicious blend of plants that are designed to deliver on key attributes of dairy milk, like taste and texture.”

John Starkey, president of plant-based food and beverages, Danone North America, this offering is part of the brand’s mission to change people’s perceptions on plant-based food and beverages. He said, “We deconstructed dairy to create this revolutionary product that delivers the taste and texture we think dairy drinkers will love. Thanks to Silk Nextmilk—a true category game changer—we’re confident dairy lovers will want to cross the aisle.”

While the commentary is compelling, people need to do a taste test for themselves. Although swap trickery might not always be condoned, the reality is that sometimes change needs a push. It might be the first step to a long love affair.

The Silk Nextmilk is available in stores now, including Target, Kroger, Publix and various other retailers. The multi-serve carton comes in both Whole Fat and Reduce Fat options.
